FIVE CHARGED BY OPP (Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP have arrested and charged (4) four adults and (1) one young offender stemming from an assault complaint received on May 10th, 2006. A 19-year-old male contacted police to report the assault.

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP have arrested and charged (4) four adults and (1) one young offender stemming from an assault complaint received on May 10th, 2006.

A 19-year-old male contacted police to report the assault. The victim stated to police that on May 9th, 2006 at approximately 6:00 p.m. he was advised that a friend wanted to talk to him. Once he left the residence he was allegedly forced into a car and brought to another residence. This is where the victim was allegedly assaulted.

Charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Forcible Confinement is Kenneth Joseph CHAFFEY (18) of Elliot Lake, Shane LAMBERT (34) of Blind River, Eva ZEIDLER (39) of Elliot Lake, Heidi Amanda ZEIDLER (20) of Elliot Lake. Also charged with the above is a 16-year-old female. Her name will not be released under the jurisdiction of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

All charged parties are scheduled to appear in court July 4th, 2006.

Investigation completed.

WOMAN CHARGED AFTER THROWING DOG AND CAGE OVER BALCONY

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On May 24th, 2006 at approximately 2:35 p.m. officers were called to attend Willoughby Rd in Elliot Lake in regards to a dog being allegedly thrown off a fourth story balcony.

On scene police learned that a 40-year-old female had allegedly thrown a dog inside a cage off a balcony. The cage and dog landed in a garden outside a ground floor apartment causing damage to a fence. Fortunately the dog had no visible injuries and was later taken to an animal shelter.

Charged with the following is Sandra Lynn BURBELLA (40) of Elliot Lake:
Cruelty to Animals
Breach of Order Prohibiting Keeping Of Animals
Disobeying Court Order X2
Mischief Under

BURBELLA is scheduled to appear in court on July 4th, 2006.

Crash Sends Teen To Hospital

Montreal River, Ont.,

A southern Ontario teen was sent to Sault Area Hospital yesterday after a single vehicle crash on Hwy 17 north.

At about 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to Hwy 17 just south of Montreal River in the area of Alona Bay. The investigation has determined that a pick up truck was northbound on Hwy 17 when the driver fell asleep at the wheel. He crossed the centerline and when through the guide rails. The truck became airborne, went down an embankment before crashing at the bottom of a ravine.

The driver was able to get out and call for help. He was sent to Sault Area Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries. Officers at the scene contribute the use of his seat belt from preventing more serious injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and was towed from the scene.

Nineteen year old Jeremy VLASSCHAERT of Tecumseh Ontario has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Searchmont Break & Enter

OPP in Sault Ste Marie are investigating a break and enter into a home in the 3600 area of Hwy 556 in Searchmont.

Late on Friday afternoon officers were called to the home after a neighbour spotted one of the windows smashed out. It appears that the culprits rifled cupboards, closets and other areas of the home. It is not yet known what has been stolen from the house.

Another Animal Collision

Echo Bay, Ont.,

Another large animal has been hit on a highway that is policed by the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment.

On Saturday afternoon at about 2:00 p.m. a SUV type of vehicle was traveling on Hwy 17 about 1km east of Echo Bay. The vehicle struck and killed a deer that ran onto the roadway. There were no injuries to any of the occupants of the vehicle.
