Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating nine break and enters in and around the Ranger Lake area over the weekend.

Sometime between 12 and 15 May 2004 thieves entered the nine seasonal homes and removed a wide variety of items. In most the cases the cupboards and closets were gone through in the homes. In all of these cases, culprits forced their way into the locked homes.

Owners of the camps are still trying to determine what is missing. So far it appears that liquor, food items and fishing equipment have been removed from the cottages.



NUMEROUS CHARGES AGAINST LOCAL MAN

Bar River, Ont.,

A twenty year old St Joseph’s Island man faces numerous charges after he failed to stop for a pursuing police vehicle.

Early Saturday morning Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to a Bar River residence for a noisy party complaint. Police observed a vehicle leaving the scene of the party and tried to pull it over. The driver refused to stop and a short pursuit took place. The driver, and lone occupant of the car, stopped the car and fled into the bush. Officers followed the driver into the bush and found him trying to hide in a puddle of water on a logging road.

He was returned to the police station where he refused to take the Breathalyzer test. As a result of his actions numerous charges have been laid against the man.

Twenty year old Spencer Young, of K-Line on St Joseph’s Island, has been charged with Refusing a Breathalyzer, Impaired Driving, Resisting arrest, Flight from Police, and Driving with an expired licence plate.

He will appear in Sault Ste Marie court in mid June to answer the charges.

TIRE DUMPING

Searchmont, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP and the MTO are trying to find out who intentionally dumped a pile of tires in the ditch on the side of the roadway.

Late Friday afternoon, MTO personnel found fifteen various sized tires dumped in the ditch on the side of the roadway on Hwy 556 near Searchmont. The tires have not been there a long time.

The removal and proper disposal of these tires, and other litter, is an unnecessary expense for Ontario taxpayers. If you know who deliberately left these tires on the side of the roadway, please call Sault Ste Marie OPP or the MTO

BATCHAWANA BREAK AND ENTERS

Batchawana, Ont,

OPP are investigating two break and enters to seasonal homes in the Batchawana area. Sometime in the past week two homes were entered and the interior of the homes were searched for valuables.

On Sunday 16 May 2004 another resident of Batchawana reported that someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and stolen a quantity of prescription drugs. Also removed from the vehicle was diabetic monitor.
