JOINT SPOT CHECKS FINDS LOTS OF CHARGES

Searchmont, Ont. A joint forces spot check with officers from the Sault Ste Marie OPP and MNR Conservation officers resulted in numerous charges being laid.

On Sunday afternoon between 3:00 p.m and 4:00 p.m. officers set up a spot check at the intersection of Hwy 556 and Hwy 532 near Searchmont. In the one hour that they were there, OPP officers issued nine seat belt tickets and found one driver behind the wheel while his licence was prohibited.

Of the 103 vehicles checked during this time officers found that thirty one year old Claude James Meyers, of Henry Street in Sault Ste Marie, was driving while his licence was suspended for a drinking and driving offence. Mr. Meyers was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada for Driving While Prohibited.

A second person charged from previous drug bust

(HAWK JUNCTION, ONTARIO) - On Thursday the 1st of March 2007, the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, and the Superior East OPP executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at 79 College Street in Hawk Junction, approximately 20 kilometres east of Wawa.

Police seized a quantity of cannabis resin in the form of hashish, a small amount of cannabis marijuana, cash, and drug paraphernalia with a total street value over $4,000.

42-year-old Billy Skouris of Hawk Junction has been charged with possession of a controlled substance x 3, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and careless storage of a firearm.

He will appear in Wawa court on the 7th of May 2007 to answer to the charges.

As a result of further police investigation, 49-year-old Katey Wright of Hawk Junction has been charged with possession of a controlled substance x3, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and careless storage of a firearm.

She will appear in Wawa court on the 7th of May 2007 to answer to the charges.

Police are continuing this investigation.

MORE THEFTS FROM THE VIXEN LAKE AREA

Searchmont, Ont. Sault Ste Marie OPP received a report of the theft of gas from a truck parked off Hwy 556 north of Searchmont.

A camper in the Vixen Lake area spent several days at his camp at Vixen Lake northeast of Searchmont. When he came out of the bush on Sunday he discovered that someone had siphoned most of the gas out of his truck.
