Hwy 17 east from Sault Ste Marie through to Blind River has been
re-opened to traffic.

This stretch of the Trans Canada highway has been closed since Sunday morning because of the effects of the late winter storm that has stopped Algoma District in its tracks

The highway remains snow covered and motorists travelling that section should expect some areas of reduced visibility

REMOVAL OF STRANDED CATTLE BEGINS

Ontario Provincial Police are starting the process of removing the eighty head of cattle that have been stuck in a overturned transport since Saturday night.

On Saturday 9 March at about 10:00 p.m.,in the midst of the blizzard, the south bound transport went into the ditch and rolled onto it's side. The accident is locate on Hwy 17 about four kms north of the entrance to the village of Batchawana.
