R.I.D.E. CHECKS FINDS ONE DRINKER

A weekend R.I.D.E. check by Sault Ste Marie OPP officers found one person to be driving under the influence.

On Saturday June 3, 2006 at about 12:30 a.m. officers set up a R.I.D.E. check on Hwy 17 in Garden River. A vehicle came through the check stop and officers detected signs that the driver had been drinking. A roadside breath test was conducted and the driver was taken back to the OPP office for breath tests.

As a result of the tests one Desbarats man has been charged with one drinking and driving offence. Nineteen year old Donald MCKEDDIE of Queen Victoria Street in Desbarats has been charged with Driving While Having a Blood/Alcohol Level Over .08. He will appear in court on 10 July 2006 in Sault Ste Marie.

WEEKEND CRASH SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL

A single vehicle crash over the weekend sent one Sault Ste Marie teenager to hospital with minor injuries

On Saturday June 3, 2006 a mini van was traveling on Watson’s Road in Echo Bay. The 17 year old driver of the van lost control of the vehicle and slid sideways off the roadway and into a tree.

One of the four occupants in the vehicle was taken to Sault Area Hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries. The van had to be towed from the scene. No charges were laid in this investigation.

Harmony Beach, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP was called to a private campground in Harmony Beach after intoxicated campers started to destroy some property.

On Sunday June 4, 2006 OPP at about 2:00 a.m. police were called to the campground after the owner found some campers burning a picnic table. The campers were removed from the property at the request of the campground owner. No charges were laid in this matter.


STOLEN BOAT

Echo Bay, Ont.,

OPP were called to the Echo Lake area of Echo Bay after a boat was stolen from a storage area.

On Saturday at about 8:00 p.m. the owner of the boat found that someone had removed a 14 foot aluminum fishing boat. It appears that two men in a pick up truck were seen leaving the area earlier in the day with the boat in the back of the truck. The owner of the boat advises that the boat and the equipment in the boat is worth about $10,000.00.

MOOSE RUNS INTO SIDE OF PICK UP

Ranger Lake, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP investigated a report of another moose collision over the weekend.

On Friday night the driver of a pick up truck was traveling on Ranger Lake Road near Ranger Lake. A moose came out of the bush and ran into the side of the pick up. The truck had moderate damage to the vehicle and the driver of the truck indicated that the moose ran back into the bush. No one, other than the moose, was injured in the collision.
