An 18-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man is in custody after he rolled a stolen van over in the ditch and fled into the bush

On Saturday morning at about 7:00 a.m. police were called to a collision on Hwy 17 in Goulais River. A northbound mini van had rolled over into the ditch. When the ambulance and police arrived at the scene the lone male occupant fled into the bush area. The OPP Canine Unit was called to the scene and at about 8:30 a.m. the man was located and surrendered to police.

The 1993 Chrysler mini van was demolished in the collision. Eighteen-year-old Jarrett Jocko of Sherbourne Street in Sault Ste Marie will appear in bail court this afternoon to answer to charges of Theft under $5000.00, Possession of Stolen Property under $5000.00 and Breach of Probation.


SMASHED AND BURNED
Goulais River, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP are attempting to determine just who owned a car that was found abandoned and burned at the end of Pineshores Rd in Goulais River.

At about 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning police were called to the end of Pineshores Rd after a resident found the car burned. The investigation has determined sometime in the middle of the night that the car struck a post further up Pineshores Drive and that the vehicle was set on fire at the end of the road.

The car was bought from a local car dealer earlier in the week and towed away from the car lot by the new owner. The dealer was unable to locate the bill of sale for the car.


ASSAULT ON WOMAN LEADS ENDS IN CHARGES AGAINST ONE MAN
Batchawana First Nation, Ont.,

An investigation by the Batchawana First Nation Police has resulted in criminal charges against a twenty-four-year-old Batchawana man.

On Saturday morning at about 9:00 a.m. the man entered an apartment on the Territory and held a woman against her will. The woman fled to the bedroom where a baby was sleeping and barricaded herself in the bedroom. The door was smashed open and the woman was kicked and punched.

The man took the infant child and fled the scene to a home in Sault Ste Marie. The man was located later in the morning and arrested for Assault Causing bodily harm and Forcible Confinement. The woman was taken to Sault Area Hospital were she was treated and released for her injuries. The child was located at a relative home of the accused and was not injured.

The name of this accused will not be released to protect the identity of the woman and child


ECHO BAY BREAK AND ENTER
Echo Bay, Ont.,

OPP are investigating the break and enter into the Echo Bay Mill on Hwy 638 in Echo Bay. Sometime over the weekend the office at the mill was entered and a chain saw and other tools were taken.

GOULAIS RIVER BREAK AND ENTERS

Two break and enters into seasonal homes are being investigated by the Sault Ste Marie OPP. On Saturday at about 4:00 p.m. two camp owners on Old Goulais Bay Road in Goulais River arrived at their camps to find that someone had stolen generators from both camps.

These two camps are located in an isolated area in Goulais River. The two generators were the only way that the two owners could operate the equipment in their vacation homes. Please call the Sault Ste Marie OPP if you know where these two generators are being stored.


VEHICLE CHECK ENDS IN IMPAIRED CHARGES
Garden River First Nation, Ont.,

An Oshawa woman has been charged with impaired driving after police were called to check on the well being of two people parked on the side of the road in Garden River.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon OPP were called to Hwy 17 in Garden River when a passing motorist became concerned about the two people. Officers quickly determined that the driver of the car was drunk and she was arrested for impaired driving

Twenty-eight-year-old Tanya Goddard of Oshawa will return in late July to answer to one charge of Impaired Driving. She was also given a ticket for having open beer in the car.
