ONE MORE TIME…. DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

It appears that the message not to drink and drive still needs to be reinforced to area drivers.

This past weekend officers with the Sault Ste Marie Detachment and the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit teamed up to conduct R.I.D.E. checks all weekend throughout the entire Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment area.

At the end of the weekend one driver was charged with impaired driving and a series of other suspensions and violations were issued.

Forty three year old Victoria Pinter-Fleming of Batchawana was charged with impaired driving after her vehicle was stopped on Hwy 563 in Batchawana on Friday night. Eight other area drivers, ranging in age from 16 to 42 were issued 12 hour drivers licence suspensions after officers detected alcohol on their breath at the various R.I.D.E. checks.

On Saturday afternoon OPP charged 27 year old Andrew Rowan of Batchawana with driving under suspension after he was stopped at a R.I.D.E. check and it was determined that his licence had been previously suspended.

Officers also charged three people with having open liquor in their car. The R.I.D.E. checks were conducted at many different locations and times from Laird Twp through to Batchawana.
