Bomb Threat During Fundraiser (Elliot Lake, Ont.) On Friday, June 10th 2005 at approximately 11:18 p.m. the OPP received a call from an unknown caller stating there was a bomb at the Elliot Lake High School.

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On Friday, June 10th 2005 at approximately 11:18 p.m. the OPP received a call from an unknown caller stating there was a bomb at the Elliot Lake High School. At the time the call was received the City was hosting the “Relay For Life” fundraiser for Cancer Research. Police deployed the Bomb Treat protocol and the event was cleared without incident. Premises, school, pool and area was checked with negative results.

Participants had been escorted to a near by High School. At 1:15 a.m. on June 11th, 2005 participants were advised the premises had been cleared and there was no longer a threat.

Participants returned and continued the fundraiser.

Police are asking any one with information regarding this incident to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,000.00 for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest.

Hit and Run Causes Damage To New Travel Trailers

Heyden, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating a hit and run collision that caused extensive damage to new travel trailers at a Heyden business.

Last night at about 10:00 p.m. a vehicle traveling south on Hwy 17 near the intersection of Trout Lake Road went out of control. The vehicle skidded across the highway, through the ditch and into three new travel trailers parked at Christie Camper Sales.

The driver fled the scene prior to police arrival.


Theft At Harmony

Harmony Beach, Ont., Police were called to Harmony Beach in Goulais River on Saturday morning after three separate theft reports from the night before.

Sometime on Friday night thieves stole at least five wheelbarrows of firewood from one home in the area and several DVD’s from a second Harmony Beach residence. A third person reported a Digital Camera worth $1000.00 was stolen from her tent.

Break and Enter

Batchawana First Nation, Ont., The Batchawana First Nation Police were called to a break and enter at a gas station on Frontenac Street this morning.

At about 1:30 this morning an alarm was activated at the business. Officers arrived to find the door had been forced open and a quantity of cigarettes had been stolen. The owner of the business has spent most of this morning determining the exact number of missing smokes.

This investigation is still ongoing.


Imapired Driver

Heyden, Ont., An officer with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit was again successful in taking another impaired driver off the roads

On Sunday night at about 10:30 the officer stopped a car on Hwy 556 near Hwy 17. The officer was quickly able to determine that that driver had been drinking. The driver was returned to the police station where breathalyzers tests confirmed the officer’s suspicions.

Further investigation also indicated the driver had his licence suspended and he was drinking in the vehicle.

Thirty eight year old Shawn ONEIL of Sault Ste Marie is charged with Impaired Driving and having open liquor in his vehicle. He has also had his drivers licence suspended for a further 90 days. He will appear in court on Aug 8, 2005 to answer his charges.

Stolen Car Parts

Echo Bay, Ont., The owner of a business in Echo Bay reported that someone came onto the property over the weekend and took parts off a vehicle that was for sale.

Sometime over the weekend the culprits opened the vehicle, lifted the hood and stole engine parts.

Attempted Break and Enter

Goulais Mission, Ont., Thieves were not successful in getting into a trailer home in Goulias Mission over the weekend.

The owner of the property discovered that the door to the trailer home had been damaged by the attempt, but the potential thieves were not successful in gaining entry. This matter is being investigated by the Batchawana First Nation Police since it did occur on a section of the Territory located in Goulais Mission.
