Lock Your Vehicles!

The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating several reports of theft from unlocked vehicles in the Elliot Lake area.

Leaving your vehicle unlocked makes it a target for theft.

S/Sgt Dean Ward would like remind all citizens that Items such as loose change, purses and wallets, packsacks, or any items of value, should be removed from your vehicle when ever you park it for any length of time. If for some reason you must leave these items, conceal them so they do not temp ‘would be’ thieves from taking them. It is not a recommended practice to leave your vehicle unlocked over night; take the time and lock your vehicle at all times.

If you notice strangers in your neighborhood that do not belong, please call police. Your neighborhood may be a target for unlocked vehicle theft.

A Heyden resident now has a smashed door and doorframe after an early morning callers tried to get into his house.

At about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday morning the owner of the house called the OPP because a pair of young girls was at his door and wanted to use the washroom. The homeowner told the person to go away but they pounded on the door insisting on getting in.

A verbal encounter ensued but the door was not opened. The encounter was loud enough to wake up some neighbours. Police arrived and the pair fled the scene through the neighbourhood and they were not located. The doorframe on the house was damaged and the owner will have to make repairs to the door and frame. Police are looking for two young offender females that were known to the occupants.
