An O.P.P. officer, travelling southbound on Highway 17 at 9:10 p.m. yesterday in VanKoughnet Township, was surprised to find a speeding motorist come up quickly behind his unmarked cruiser. The car then tailgated the cruiser with high beams flashing. It was apparent the female driver wanted to pass however on-coming heavy traffic prevented her from doing so.

The officer pulled over the 1992 Dodge Spirit and found the driver had been drinking and had open alcohol in the vehicle. Lisa Renee Deschamps, age 37, of Columbia Tennessee, was arrested and taken to the detachment where breath tests revealed a reading in excess of twice the legal limit. Further checks revealed she was wanted by Sault Police Service for various criminal offences. She will appear in bail court today to face various impaired driving charges, disqualified driving, obstructing police, and various liquor and traffic offences.
