Literacy is the Key !!!

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is participating in the second, province-wide Book Drive for Aboriginal Youth Literacy, a project of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable James K. Bartleman.

During the month of January, the public will be able to drop off new or gently used books for children or teenagers at any OPP detachment during regular business hours. As the goal of this drive is to provide books for youth, the OPP will not accept books intended for adults, or reference books/materials or magazines.

The drive concludes on January 31, 2007 and no books will be accepted after that date.

HEYDEN BREAK AND ENTERS

Heyden, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating four break and enters on Maki Lake in Heyden.

Yesterday afternoon the owner of one camp arrived to find his seasonal home entered. A search of that building revealed a DVD player stolen. Three other neighbouring camps in the area were also entered. It appears that thieves did search the three other camps for something to steal but at this time nothing appears to be missing.

Do you live in the Maki Lake area of Heyden and want to put these thieves in their rightful home –behind bars ??? January has been designated as Crime Stoppers month. Four hard working people have their seasonal retreats in the Maki Lake area of Heyden entered by people who obviously could care less about hard work and property ownership. Help us give these types of dishonest slugs a little retreat of their own in a small room with a view that includes bars on the windows.

If you have any information on these break and enters or who bought any of this stolen property, call Crime Stoppers. The joint effort between you, Crime Stoppers and the Police may just be the connections needed to put send these thieves on a trip of their own to one of Ontario’s many jails. Crime Stoppers can be reached at
942-7867 or toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477)
