Overdue Aircraft Located On Sunday, January 30, Cochrane Ontario Provincial Police detachment undertook an investigation of an overdue ultralight aircraft from Cochrane. The aircraft with two occupants on board was last seen at 2:45 p.m.
Overdue Aircraft Located

On Sunday, January 30, Cochrane Ontario Provincial Police detachment undertook an investigation of an overdue ultralight aircraft from Cochrane. The aircraft with two occupants on board was last seen at 2:45 p.m. departing the Cochrane airport and had not returned as anticipated by sundown. Aerial search support was requested and coordinated by the Rescue Coordination Centre (424 squadron CFB Trenton) who dispatched a Cormorant search helicopter to the area. At approximately 3 a.m. the missing aircraft and occupants were located disabled on the Abitibi River approximately 30 kilometers north west of the Cochrane airfield. The ultralight aircraft became immovable on the frozen river after developing mechanical problems with the landing gear. Wayne Irvine (age 62) and his son (pilot) Brent Irvine (age 39), both Cochrane residents were returned safely in good condition.

Goulais River, Ont. - A Goulais River man has been charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act after his ten-year-old son was caught running a snow machine up and down the Goulais River.
On Saturday January 29 at about 5:30 p.m. officers were called to the Goulais River in the Pineshores Road area after a report of a young child operating a snow machine on the river. Officers determined that the operator was ten years old. The child's father has been charged under the Motorized Snow Machine Act.

Stolen Polaris

Echo Bay, Ont. - Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating a report of a stolen snow machine from the Echo Bay area over the weekend.
Sometime during the darkened hours of Saturday night and Sunday morning thieves entered an Echo Lake Road property and removed a 2002 Polaris snow machine from the home.

Fish and Wildlife

Goulais River, Ont. - Joint snow machine patrols with the Conservation Officers from the MNR and officers with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit continue to produce positive results.
Over the weekend officers from both agencies laid two charges under the Fish and Wildlife Act while four others received warnings under the same act. Three people were charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act but sixteen others were lucky enough to receive warnings for other violations. Two snowmachine operators were charged with liquor violations and four people will be required to bring various documents to the OPP detachment this week to avoid further charges.

Motor Vehicle Collision

The OPP (Sault Ste Marie) would like to advise the motoring public that as a result of a motor vehicle collision Highway 17 at Harmony Beach (north of Sault Ste Marie) is closed until further notice.
Small vehicles are being re-routed around the scene but larger vehicles are being held up. No other information regarding the accident is available at this time.

Highway Closed

The OPP (Sudbury) would like to advise the motoring public that as a result of a motor vehicle collision, Highway 144 approximately four kilometres south of the Levack turnoff is closed until further notice. No other information regarding the collision is available at this time.
