Two Impaired Drivers, Just Minutes Apart

Heyden, Ont.,

Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment charged two Heyden residents with Impaired Driving over the weekend just minutes apart from each other.

Early Saturday morning at about 2:00 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle on Hwy 17 in Heyden. The officer saw indicators that the woman driver had been drinking. A roadside breath test indicated that there was enough evidence for a Breathalyzer test.

The woman was returned to the OPP station where she failed the Breathalyzer tests. As a result of this investigation thirty five year old Dawna Graham of Hwy 17 in Heyden was charged with Driving while over the Legal Limit Contrary to the Criminal Code. As with everyone who is charged with any drinking and driving offence in Ontario, her driver’s licence is suspended for the next 90 days.

About 10 minutes later Sault Ste Marie OPP picked up another Impaired driver. The officer was entering a shopping plaza in Heyden when she noticed a pick up truck coming in her direction and that the truck had fish tailed several times. As the truck was being pulled over the male driver had difficulty putting the truck in park. The truck was rolling back into the cruiser. The truck eventually stopped before it hit the police car. The officer watched as the driver left the drivers seat and sat on the passenger’s laps claiming he wasn’t the driver.

As a result of this investigation a twenty eight year old Kim Danz of Old Mill Road in Heyden was charged with three Criminal Code offences. The accused has been charged with Impaired Driving, Driving Over the Legal Limit and Breach of Probation. He was also given a ninety day drivers licence suspension. He will appear in court on 06 March 2006.
