(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On Thursday, February 24, 2005 police received a call from a male complaining that he had been threatened. Investigation revealed that the suspect was yelling at the owner of the business when the victim tried to assist. The male then allegedly stated that he would kill the victim. The suspect then started his vehicle and drove towards the complainant. The male then left the area and police were contacted.

Charged with the following is Francesco Benito CONGI (68) of Elliot Lake.

Assault with a Weapon
Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle

CONGI is scheduled to appear in court on April 5th, 2005.

Unlocked Vehicle Target for Theft

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are investigating a report that sometimes between 5:30 p.m. on February 26th and 9:30 a.m. February 27th, 2005 unknown person(s) stole items from an unlocked vehicle on Stevens Rd. Item taken were CD’s and Canadian Tire Money.

The OPP would like to take this time to remind everyone to always lock your vehicle. An unlock vehicle is a target for theft. Items such as loose change, purses and wallets, packsacks or any other items of value should be removed from vehicle when ever you park it for any length of time.

If you happen to be outside after dark and see people in your neighborhood that do not belong, please report it to police. Your neighborhood may be a target for unlocked vehicle theft.

Snowmobile Accident

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are investigating a snowmobile accident that occurred on a snowbird trail approximately 4 kms north of Elliot Lake on February 27th, 2005. One machine was southbound and the other northbound. As a result of the accident the driver and passenger on one of the machine were ejected and suffered injuries.

The accident is still under investigation and names will not be released at this time.

Prowling Thieves Target Over Twenty (20) Vehicles

(Blind River, Ont.) In the early hours of Sunday 27 February two persons set out on a walking tour that landed them in custody.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m. a Rousseau Cr resident heard a commotion at his garage, when he went to investigate he saw that the door had been opened and his car had been entered. He also observed two persons running from the area. The Police arrived on scene shortly after, located and arrested two females.
The two were found in possession of various articles that had been taken from the numerous vehicles.

Police estimate that at least twenty vehicles had been entered from this crime spree that had started shortly after midnight.

Police arrested and charged:
19-year-old Fallon DEKEYSTER OF Colonization Rd in Blind River with several counts of theft.

Also arrested but not charged was a 16-year-old female.

East Algoma O.P.P. is reminding motorists and home owners to lock their vehicles and garages and to report any suspicious persons in their neighbourhood before they or their neighbours become victims of a crime.

Theft From Vehicle

Serpent River First Nation Territory) Sometime after 8:00 p.m. on the evening of the 24 th a Serpent River resident had her vehicle damaged while at a meeting.

Culprits had broken into her van and removed the owner’s purse. She noticed that some items had been taken and reported the incident to the Police.

Officers from East Algoma O.P.P. attended the Crime scene and seized some items that may help identify the thieves. Two ,yet unidentified, youths had been seen in the parking lot prior to the theft.

Police are reminding all persons to take valuables with them when they leave their vehicles or at least put them out of sight.
