Sault Ste Marie OPP have laid charges in the fatal accident that claimed the lives of five Garden River residents in August of this year.

On Friday 03 August 2001 a head-on collision on Hwy 17 on the Garden River First Nation Territory claimed the lives of three children and two adults. Four other people involved in the accident were taken to the hospital with various other injuries.

After an extensive review by the Regional Crown Attorneys Office, the decision has been made to charge the driver of the pick-up truck involved in the accident.

Sault Ste Marie OPP have charged eighteen year old Joseph Martin Crozier, of Sault Ste Marie, with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

Careless driving carries a maximum penalty of $1000.00, six months in jail or both. The section also provides for a possible drivers licence suspension for two years.
