Sault Ste Marie, Ont., Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP worked on their own and together with the Sault Ste Marie City Police over the weekend to conduct twelve Festive R.I.D.E. stops

Officers conduct R.I.D.E. checks from the village of Batchawana in the north through to Neebish Road in Laird Twp in the east. These efforts included a joint R.I.D.E. check with the City Police over the weekend. As a result of the efforts one 12 hour drivers licence suspension and one Liquor Licence Act Charge were laid by members of the OPP.

Sault OPP also answered a variety of other non-eventful calls throughout the weekend.

Off Road Vehicle Charges

(Blind River, Ont.) Three young persons found operating three wheeled motor vehicles were charged for various violations relating to Highway traffic Act.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Saturday 10 Dec. 05 officers with the East Algoma O.P.P. Detachment in Blind River observed some off road vehicles traveling on Boom Camp Road. Several complaints of unauthorized operation of off-road vehicles in the area led the officers to investigate.
Officers located three abandoned three-wheelers and shortly afterwards located the three persons who had been operating the vehicles.

Officers charged a 19-year-old with:
Drive Off Road Vehicle – No Insurance
Drive off Road Vehicle – Fail to Wear Proper Helmet.

Officers charged a 15-year-old with:
Drive Off road vehicle – No Insurance
Drive Off Road Vehicle – No Driver’s Licence

A 13-year-old was warned for his infractions.

Reg. 316 of the highway Traffic Act sets out the parameters regarding operation of off Road Vehicles on A Highway.
A person must possess a Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence to operate such a vehicle on a highway.
