Batchewana Vehicle Incident(s)

On the 26th of August, a Michigan resident, traveled to the Batchewana area to enjoy the scenic surroundings. He parked his vehicle and went for a short walk. Alas he forgot to lock his car. When he returned, shortly before 7:00 P.M., from what had been an enjoyable stroll, he discovered that there were two young boys inside his car. You can expect that the reason the lads were in the car was not for a good purpose. When the owner was noticed by the scalawags, they vamoose at high speed. The chase was on.

During the course of the pursuit one of the lads dropped the car owners wallet. The wallet was recovered intact. The boys were followed and they ran to the safety of their parent’s arms at a nearby campsite. These boys are lucky. At the age of 16 and 13 they are old enough to have grasped the concept of right and wrong. In this case the almost victim was in a forgiving mood. By his request charges were not laid, but the lads were reprimand by police and parents.

This is the second incident reported in this area involving theft from a motor vehicle. We know that the surroundings appear to be pristine but some of the folks that frequent the area are not. Please do not neglect to lock your vehicle if you are going to be away from it. The temptation to do evil seems to be much greater than some peoples moral values can resist.

Traffic Accident

A traffic accident on Highway 17 north at about 6:00 P.M. in front of the Timberland Store could have been far worse that it was. William Gordon WHITE 64 of Goulais River was making a left turn from the store onto highway 17. At the same time a transport truck was northbound and approaching the driveway to the store. The truck driver was shocked when the small SUV failed to stop and continued into his path. Evasive action was not successful and a collision ensued. Mr. WHITE’s vehicle was spun across the roadway into the west ditch. Thankfully injuries sustained by Mr. WHITE and his passenger were minimal. No one aboard the transport truck was injured. His vehicle suffered major damage with the transport suffering somewhat less. Mr. WHITE has been charged with Failing to Yield to Traffic.

Horses Wandering

Those horses that were wandering about on Lake George Road last week were at it again. We received a complaint around 5:30 last Friday afternoon. They do not appear to like the confines of their residence and again found a way to circumvent the fence and broaden their horizons. Once again they were returned to their home before being struck by a vehicle. Measures are being taken to ensure that this will not happen again. If you happen to be traveling along Lake George Road use extra caution, particularly after dark. We cannot guarantee that these new measures will be any more successful that the old ones.
