Heyden, Ont., Police dogs from the OPP and the Sault Ste Marie City Police were used on Saturday afternoon to track down a man wanted by the Sault Ste Marie City police.

On Saturday at about 12:00 noon officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP were northbound on Hwy 17 in Heyden. An officer saw a southbound car being driven by a man they knew was wanted for break and enter by the Sault Ste Marie City Police.

As the officers turned their car around the suspect vehicle immediately pulled over and the driver fled into the bush. Police tracking dogs with the OPP and the Sault Ste Marie City police were called to the scene. At about 1:45 p.m. the man was found in the bush by the police tracking dogs near Old Goulais Bay Road and the hydro lines.

Twenty nine year old Jason AUKLAND of Sault Ste Marie will appear in bail court this morning to answer to the Sault Ste Marie City Police charges.

Asleep at the Wheel

Pancake Bay, Ont. - One person was injured over the weekend when the driver of a minivan fell asleep at the wheel and the van ended up in the bush.

On Saturday 23 April at about 12 noon the vehicle was southbound on Highway 17 in the Pancake Bay area.

The driver fell asleep while she was driving.

The van left the roadway went into the ditch and then into the bush area beside the ditch.

One of the five occupants of the van was treated for minor injuries.

The van had to be towed from the scene.

Thirty-five-year old Larisa GLUSKIN of Winnipeg Manitoba has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving.

Arrest made for Tower Damage

(Wawa, Ontario) – Superior East OPP investigated the damage done to the wind tower on Michipicoten First Nation.

On April 12th police had found several bullet holes through the meter box and tower post.

Three of six wind catchers on top on the tower were also damaged.

On April 22nd, police arrested one male and charged him with mischief over $5000 and a firearms offence.

There are arrest warrants issued for the others involved.

Names are being withheld pending further investigation.
