Traffic Charges In Goulais River Car Fire

A Goulais River man faces two traffic charges after a car was found abandoned and on fire over the weekend.

On Saturday 22 April 2006 at about 5:30 p.m. OPP and the Goulais River Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a car that was on fire on Karalash Road in Goulais River. The investigation determined that a Goulais River man had spent the day repairing the car and took it for a test drive along Hwy 17. While returning home the car caught fire and the man left the vehicle to burn.

Forty eight year old Jamie McCormack, of Old Hwy 17 in Goulais River, has been charged with Operating a Vehicle With No Insurance and Driving with No Licence.

Impaired Driver Takes Out Guide Posts

A nineteen year old Sault Ste Marie man has been charged with a drinking and driving offence after he took out five guide posts along Hwy 17 on Sunday morning.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning an officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment discovered a pick up truck facing the wrong way in the north bound ditch of Hwy 17 near Havilland Shores Drive.

The investigation has determined that the nineteen year old was southbound on Hwy 17 when he crossed the center line and crashed through the guideposts and guide wires. The pick up truck he was driving continued to travel south in the northbound ditch but eventually became stuck in the soft shoulder.

Nineteen year old Aaron Carson of Sault Ste Marie has been charged withdDriving while over the Legal Limit of .08 Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He will appear in court on May 29, 2006 to answer to the charge.

Break And Enter

Sault Ste Marie OPP is investigating a break and enter to a shed on Havilland Shores Drive in Goulais River over the weekend.

Sometime between Friday night and Sunday morning thieves forced their way into the shed and stole welding equipment.

Echo Bay Vandals

Sault Ste Marie OPP were called to the new highway construction site in Echo Bay after youths were seen driving construction equipment last night.

At about 8:00 p.m. last night an alert homeowner of Echo Bay heard some of the heavy equipment used in the highway construction running. The homeowner thought this was out of the ordinary and they could see one of the large dump trucks moving about the construction area.

A call was made to an official with the construction company confirmed that they were not working on Sunday. OPP and the construction official responded to find that several youths were seen leaving the area in a mud covered older pick up truck. The youths had started a large dump truck on the site but got it stuck in the mud. The foreman advised that other than being stuck in the mud there was no damage to the truck.
