A Mississauga resident faces multiple charges following a traffic stop in Wawa on Good Friday.

In a news release issued today, the Superior East OPP say that shortly before 9 a.m. on March 29, officers were conducting general patrol on Highway 17 near Wawa when their Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alerted them to a plate that had been reported stolen.

Officers who conducted a traffic stop confirmed that the licence plates were indeed stolen and did not belong to the vehicle, police say.

Police say further investigation revealed that the vehicle was also reported stolen and that driver had a suspended licence.

Bryan Young, 36, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Driving while under suspension - two counts
  • Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 6 in Wawa.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Young is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
