Goulais driver charged with impaired during New Year's Eve RIDE check

A Goulais River driver has been charged after being stopped at an Ontario Provincial Police RIDE check in Aweres Township on New Year's Eve.

Shortly after 11 p.m., a truck entered the checkpoint, which was set up on Highway 556 between Cameron Road and Lakeview Drive.

While officers were speaking with the driver, police say they determined that the driver had consumed alcohol and arrested them before taking the driver to the Sault detachment for further testing. 

As a result, Cole Hollan, 29, was charged with:

  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
