COLLISION SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL
Yesterday afternoon at 4:00, a collision between a car and a transport truck sent one man from the Sault to hospital.

A transport had just pulled onto highway 17 at Pumpkin Point Road in Laird Twp., east of Echo Bay. The truck was picking up speed when a 1997 Honda Civic, operated by Richard Kent, age 32, of Hilton Beach, hit the rear of the transport.

The impact demolished the Honda and sent the driver to hospital by ambulance with significant facial injuries. The transport driver was not injured and the truck sustained minor damage.

Police are crediting the combined use of seat belts and an air bag in preventing even more serious injuries to the car's driver. Kent has been charged with careless driving.
