Repeated 911 Calls Results in Criminal Charges

The Ontario Provincial Police have completed their investigation into an incident that occurred on the 27th of August 2006 when they were dispatched to a cottage on Old Mill Road in response to disturbance.

Subsequent to their first attendance both the Ontario Provincial Police and the local ambulance service received some 18 911 calls from the male who refused to quite calling the 911 and disrupting the emergency line.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police were forced to return to the residence on Old Mill Rd and arrest the male.

Charged with mischief, Obstruct Peace Officer and Breach of a Court Order is 42 year old Kevin Hammond of John Street in Sault Ste Marie. He will appear in court on the 25th of September 2006.

Early Morning Break and Enter Attempt

Police were dispatched to a residence at 144 Frontenac St On Batchawana First Nation to investigate a report of someone attempting to enter the house at 12:50 a.m. A screen was removed from a rear window of the home. The suspect ran off when the homeowner responded to the noise of the screen being removed. Police are seeking assistance in identifying the suspect in this case. Sault Detachment officers investigated a Break and enter to a Cedar Crt Residence in Aweres Twp. Cigarettes and a small quantity of cash had been taken from the home sometime on the 21st of September. A young offender has been identified as being responsible for this Break and Enter and will be summons to court.



1,005 MARIHUANA PLANTS LOCATED

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On Wednesday, 13th day of September 2006 the OPP Joint Forces Drug Unit, which consists of members from the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, OPP North East Region, Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, made a substantial drug marihuana seizure on the Serpent River First Nations Reserve.

Officers located one thousand and five marihuana plants on a partial of land registered to the Serpent River First Nations Reserve. Plants are valued at over 1 million dollars and to date no arrests have been made.
