Hwy # 17 E Collision Sends One person to Hospital

The East Bound portion of Hwy# 17 at Lake George Road was closed last evening at 7:00 .pm. when a Plymouth van traveling south on Lake George road failed to yield to GMC pickup truck traveling east on Hwy# 17. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Sault and Area hospital with non life threatening injuries. Charged with fail to yield contrary to section 136(1)(b) of the highway traffic act is driver of the van. The injured driver of the pickup truck was not wearing his seatbelt and will be charged with that offence. The highway was closed for a period of time while the officer removed vehicles from the highway and conducted their investigation.

This collision is an example where even when driving properly collisions can happen and the failure to wear a seat belt can result in increased injury. A conviction for not wearing a seat belt will result in a fine and 2 demerit points against your license.

Observant Officer Nabs Wanted Man

An observant Sault Ste Marie OPP officer heading out of town on Great Northern Rd at 2:14 p.m. on the 19th of October saw a passenger in a vehicle whom he knew an warrant had been issued for. Arrested on an outstanding committal warrant for Driving Under suspension Roger Craig Vinneau age 30 of Aweres Twp. Mr. Vinneau will be serving a 30 day sentence for his conviction for driving under suspension. Highway Traffic act convictions can lead to jail sentences not just fines.
