TRUCK DRIVER IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER MAJOR COLLISION

A Peterborough Ontario truck driver is in critical condition after a major collision yesterday left Hwy 17 north of Sault Ste Marie closed all night.

Yesterday at about 3:00 p.m. an officer from Sault Ste Marie OPP was at a two vehicle property damage collision on Hwy 17 at Alona Bay. The two passenger vehicles were headed in opposite directions when one vehicle lost control and slid sideways into the path of the other vehicle. No one was injured in this collision and both vehicles were off the traveled portion of the highway.

While police investigated this collision, a north bound tractor trailer lost control and slid sideways. The two trailers this truck was pulling slid across the highway. A second truck was south bound at the same time and struck the trailers of the first truck. This collision demolished the second truck and send truck parts and debris across the highway.
