FUEL LEAK ON HWY 17
Echo Bay, Ont.,

Debris left on the highway is being blamed for a minor fuel leak on Hwy 17 near Echo Bay.

Yesterday at about 12:30 p.m. a tractor trailer was traveling west on Hwy 17 near Echo Bay. The truck ran over some unknown debris on the highway and one of the fuel tanks on the truck was punctured. A small trail of diesel fuel was left on the roadway for about 1 to 2 kilometers.

The truck driver was able to stop the leak and was allowed to continue on his way. The Ministry of the Environment was notified of the spill. There was no need to close the highway or re-route traffic in that area.

"NO NOTHING"
Heyden, Ont.,

A traffic stop for a speeding violation has resulted in a Goulais River man receiving several summons for court .

Yesterday at about 5:00 p.m. members of the O.P.P. Traffic and Marine Unit stopped a car in Heyden for speeding. The driver attempted to hide from police by pulling off onto a side road.

The investigation has revealed that the driver has had his licence suspended twice, there was no insurance on the vehicle, he was using the wrong licence plates for the car and the validation on the licence plates was tampered with .

Twenty-one-year-old Christopher Lortie of Pineshores Road in Goulais River will appear in Provincial Offences court on June 11 to answer to numerous charges.

BEWARE OF THE BEARS
Heyden,Ont.,

Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. has responded to three bear sightings over the past week in the Heyden area. All three complaints have been received in the Trout Lake Road area of Heyden.

The bear (or bears) was not an immediate threat to anyone or any property but did cause concern because of the proximity to housing.

These animals are now intensely looking for food so keep your yards, porches and property free of garbage or any other food sources that may attract a bear to your area.

Usually humans know enough to keep their distance from these animals but the bear is merely looking for food. Do not get between a bear and its food source. Keep your area clean and garbage free and chances are the bears will not be interested in your yard.
