Assault Charges Laid Desbarats, Ont., East Algoma O.P.P. received complaints from two junior students at Central Algoma Secondary School. The incidents stemmed from an alleged physical confrontation between a teacher and two students.

Desbarats, Ont., East Algoma O.P.P. received complaints from two junior students at Central Algoma Secondary School. The incidents stemmed from an alleged physical confrontation between a teacher and two students. The one incident is from late March and the other from the 25 or 26 of April.

As a result of the investigation a female teacher was charged

Charged with two counts of simple assault is: 49- year-old Joanne NICHOLLS of Gould Twp.

Nicholls is to appear in court on 23 June 2005 in Thessalon.

Speeding Vehicle Fails To Stop

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On May 12th, 2005 an OPP officer, on general patrol, observed a speeding vehicle going northbound on Hwy 108, 2kms north of Highway 17. The officer pursued the vehicle and activated the emergency lights. The vehicle accelerated away from the Police and was passing other vehicles at a speeds in excess of 200 k/h on hills and curves.

At approximately 1km south of Depot Lake the evading vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, struck the gravel shoulder and went into the east side ditch. The vehicle rolled over coming to rest on its wheels.

The driver was rescued from the burning vehicle which eventually became totally engulfed in the fire.

The driver received minor injuries.

Charged with Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a vehicle is:

Matthew Donald DIES (22) of Elliot Lake.

DIES is scheduled to appear in court on July 5th, 2005.
