UPDATE TO FATAL DESBARATS COLLISION

Members of the Thessalon office of the East Algoma O.P.P. are still investigating yesterday's fatal collision that killed a local teenager and sent four other teens to area hospitals.

The investigation, so far, has indicated that the car containing the five teenagers was stopped facing east on Highway 17 in Desbarats. The car had it's left turn signal on waiting to make a left turn onto an area side road. The transport was also eastbound on Hwy. 17 and ran into the back of the car.

Members of the Johnson Township Fire Department, in Desbarats, were called to the scene to extricate four of the five victims. All of the four injured teens were transported to Mathews Memorial Hospital in Richards Landing on St. Joesph's Island.

One person was treated and released from Mathew's Memorial Hospital and the other three teenagers were transferred to Sault Area Hospital in Sault Ste Marie.

Sixteen year old Joshua BROCKLEBANK of Echo Bay was killed as a result of this two vehicle collision.

Seventeen year old Erin TRIVERS of Thessalon (female) remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Sault Area Hospital.

The identity of the other occupants in the vehicle are as follows:

1.Kyle BRICK, AGE: 16, Thessalon, Ont.
2.Brianna BORDELEAU AGE: 18 Thessalon, Ont.
3.Jacob KING, Age: 17, Thessalon, Ont.

Kyle BRICK was treated at Mathews Memorial Hospital in Richards Landing and released.

Both Brianna BORDELEAU and Jacob King were treated at Sault Area Hospital and released.

Highway 17 in the Desbarats area has been restricted to one lane in that area since the collision. As of 7:00 a.m. this morning the highway is open in both directions.

This collision is still under investigation but several criminal charges have been laid against the driver of the transport. Both vehicles involved in the collision have been seized and will be held for expert examination.

The driver of the transport, 24 year old Chad LUBJENKA of Durham Ontario, will appear in Thessalon Court on Thursday, May 29 to answer to the charges of Criminal Negligence Causing Death, Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.



SINGLE VEHICLE ROLL OVER
Laird Twp, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie O..P.P investigated one roll over collision yesterday.

At about 3:30 p.m. a pick-up truck was westbound on the divided section of Hwy 17 in Laird Township. The truck left the roadway and rolled over in the median.

No one was injured in this collision and no charges were laid as a result of the investigation.
