It May Be More Then Speed Control When You're Running Radar

Goulais River, Ont.,

An officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment once again proves that there may just be more than speed control when your running radar.

Last night at about 11:30 p.m. an officer with the Sault OPP was on patrol of Hwy 17 in the Havilland Twp area of Goulais River. The officer clocked a northbound vehicle in excess of thirty five kilometers over the speed limit. The officer pulled the vehicle over and discovered that the male driver was exhibiting indicators that he had been drinking.

A roadside breath test was done and as a result of that test the driver of the vehicle was taken back to the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment for Breathalyzer testing. He failed the Breathalyzer tests and now is charged with a drinking and driving offence.

Twenty eight year old Dustin WAITES of Hwy 17 in Havilland Twp, Goulais River has been charged with Diving with a Blood Alcohol Level Over .08. He was also issued the speeding ticket worth $265.00.

Everyone in Ontario who is charged with a drinking and driving offence automatically looses their licence for 90 days. Mr. Waites drivers licence is now suspended for the next 90 days.
