Marine Units Search Havilland Bay

Havilland Bay, Ont., Marine Units from Sault Ste Marie OPP and Sault Search and Rescue spent most of last night searching for a boater in distress.

At about 11:30 p.m. last night the OPP received a report of people on shore hearing someone in a boat yelling for help. Witnesses indicated that the person was adrift in his boat.

Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP Marine unit and Sault Search and Rescue responded to the area. Assistance from the Rescue Coordination Center in Trenton was also requested. RCC Trenton dispatched an aircraft for the search.

At about 5:00 a.m. this morning the man was found adrift in Havilland Bay near the west end of Batchawana Island. Other than being cold and tired after a night on the water, he didn’t require any medical attention.

As a result of this search the operator, and lone occupant of the boat, forty seven year old Stephen GLAZEBROOK of Havilland Shores Drive was charged with not having any life jackets in his boat.
