A Goulais River resident called police last night after a visitor to the property refuse to leave.

Last night at about 8:00 p.m. police were called to the 300 area of Hwy 552 East after a medium size bear was seen in the yard for the second time. The bruin made good his escape shortly after police were called. Officers checked the area in case the animal was intending to make a third visit to the area but it appeared that the bear did not come back.

MOTEL THEFT LEADS TO CHARGES

On Monday the 22 May 06 Manitoulin received a call from the owners of a local motel in Little Current. They report they had a guest from the Timmins area stay at the motel and check out on the holiday Monday. Later that morning when the housekeeping person went to clean the room they noticed that the paintings had been removed from the walls, the bedspread along with 4 pillows had been taken from the room. The owners then called police. Luckily the suspect had left a trail by leaving his full name and address in the motel registry along with a full description of his vehicle with licence plate number. Needless to say the suspect was located and appropriate theft charges were laid.

ATTEMPT BREAK & ENTER TO GORE BAY BUSINESS

On Wednesday the 24th May 2006 Wilf Hardman called and reported that sometime over night someone had attempted to break into his business (Hardman Photo & TV/ The Source). Attempts were made to enter through a rear window however entry was not gained. Constable John Robertson is the investigating officer and if anyone has any further knowledge of this crime they are asked to call police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

YOUTH CHARGED IN HIGH SCHOOL ASSAULT

On Thursday 25 May 2006 at 1:05 pm Manitoulin OPP received a call from the staff of Manitoulin Secondary School advising that a student had just been assaulted while skateboarding off the school property. It is alleged that the one student hit the other over the head with the skateboard. The victim was transported to the Mindemoya hospital where he was treated and sustained a mild concussion. As a result of an investigation by Constable Jason Koehler a 16 year-old male youth who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with Assault and Theft under $5000. He is to appear in Gore Bay Youth Court to answer to the said charges.
