THE POTENTIAL FOR TRAGEDY
Batchawana First Nation, Ont.,

A Batchawana First Nation woman experienced an early morning awaking that had potential for tragic outcome.

Just after 3:00 a.m. this morning the Gran Street resident was awakened by someone knocking on her door. When she opened the door she found an elderly woman dressed in pajamas. Police were called and it was determined that the 76 year old woman was suffering from Alzheimer’s. The woman was registered with the Sault Ste Marie City Police in their Alzheimer’s Wandering Person Registry.

The woman left her home in Sault Ste Marie, just east of Shannon Road, sometime in the night and found her way to the Batchawana First Nation at the east end of the City of Sault Ste Marie. The woman was returned to her home into the care of her husband. It appeared to all involved that the woman was not injured in any way.
