TRANSPORT LEAVES THE HIGHWAY

At 6:45 p.m. yesterday, a transport truck cab without a trailer was northbound on highway17 east, just south of Heyden when it left the driving lane and entered the east ditch where it travelled a short distance before striking a large rock. The driver, John Bijowski, age 43, of the Sault, suffered serious injuries and was extricated from the wreckage by the Aweres Volunteer Fire Department. The truck was demolished. The investigation is continuing.


MOTORCYCLE-BEAR ACCIDENT

Sault O.P.P. is investigating motorcycle-bear collision of Highway 17 north of the Sault near Harmony Bay, Haviland Township. The motorcycle, driven by Todd Briggs, age 34, of the Sault, was southbound when the bear ran out into its path. Briggs suffered minor injuries but was not admitted to hospital. The bear had to be destroyed.
