(St.Joseph’s Island, Ont.) Police are currently on the scene of a suspected drowning on St. Joseph’s Island.
At approx 2:45 p.m. Friday 22 July 2005 Police received a call regarding a 35-year-old man who left the shore to retrieve a boat that had blown away from it moorings in Sterling Bay on Lake Huron.

The boat, that had been tied up, broke free and the man apparently went into the water to retrieve the boat but the wind kept blowing it further from shore. The man got into difficulty in deeper water and disappeared from sight.

As of 6:00 p.m. 22 July 2005 two O.P.P. Marine units and a United States Coast Guard Helicopter were conducting a search for the man.

The missing person is described as: male, 35 years old, 5’ 6” tall and weighing approximately 220 lbs.

Police have no other details to release at this time and will update this release as soon as they become available.

OPP Officer Injured in Collision with Moose

(Kirkland Lake, Ontario) An Ontario Provincial Police officer was seriously injured when his unmarked cruiser collided with a moose on Hwy 11, Maisonville Township, near the border between the Districts of Cochrane/Temiskaming at 10:00 p.m. last evening (Thursday, July 21, 2005).

Detective Constable Stephen Jones, a 33-year-old, five-year OPP veteran, working out of Cochrane Detachment, was on duty and returning from a training course when the collision occurred. The officer, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was extricated by emergency services at the scene and transported by land ambulance to Kirkland Lake and District Hospital with possible head and spinal injuries. Constable Jones was later flown to Sudbury Regional Hospital by air ambulance and then to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
