A Sault Ste Marie man will appear in court in February after being caught for impaired driving yesterday afternoon.

At about 3:00 p.m., an O.P.P. officer with the Northeast Region Traffic and Marine Unit, based in Sault Ste Marie, stopped a car on Hwy 17 in Heyden. The actions and ability of the driver to navigate his vehicle caught the attention of the officer.

The car was pulled over and the driver was given a roadside breath test. The driver failed the test and was returned to the Sault Ste Marie O.P.P. office were a breathalyzer test was conducted. He also failed the breathalyzer test and was charged accordingly.

Fifty-three-year-old Robert Cloutier, of Sault Ste Marie, will appear in court on Feb 24 to answer to one charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle While over .08 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada


FIGHTING LANDS YOUTH IN JAIL FOR THE NIGHT

A Rankin youth is spending the night in police holding cells after fighting with others at a apartment complex on the Batchawana First Nation Territory.

Last night at about 11:00 p.m. O.P.P. were called to the apartment complex after receiving a call from a resident of a fight in front of the building.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the young man being restrained by other young people at the scene. He was handed over to the police by the group. Investigation revealed that the youth was under a court order for a curfew and not to be drinking.

The 17-year-old resident of the Rankin area was held overnight in police holding cells. He will be answering to charges of Breach of Probation and Breach of a Recognizance in February of 2003. There were no reported injuries in this incident.
