(Wawa, Ontario) – On the 9th of December at 3:30 a.m., the driver of a tractor-trailer carrying a load of freight lost control of his rig 20 kilometer south of Wawa on Highway 17.

The highway was completely blocked for 6 hours and one lane was opened until the highway was fully opened at 10:30 p.m.
Wawa OPP investigation revealed the truck was southbound when it crossed over the northbound lane, went into a rock cut and flipped over.

The tractor trailer was demolished and the load spilled onto the roadway and the ditch. It took a work crew 12 hours to put the load onto another trailer and clean up the mess.

MTO assisted and Ministry of Environment was notified due to adiesel fuel leak. The 52-year-old driver from Montreal Quebec was charged with careless driving.

Neither the driver or passenger were injured. The highway was snow covered at the time.
