Motorcycle /Transport Crash Motorcycle Operator Dies in London Hospital

Sault Ste Marie Detachment OPP officers are investigating a crash between a West Bound Honda motorcycle and a east bound Quick X transport. The crash occurred at 11:50 a.m. Thursday 24th of August on Hwy#17 just east of Maple Leaf rd. in Echo Bay. The driver of the motorcycle Benjiman Robinson age 24 of Kitchener Ontario was flown to Hamilton and then to London. Mr. Robinson passed away early Friday morning, at the London Royal Victoria Hospital. The driver of the Quick X transport Andrzej Kopka age 46 of London Ontario was not injured.

Police investigations indicate that the motorcycle for reasons unknown, drove left of center and traveled into the left front corner of the transport. The motorcycle operator was an inexperienced operator having only being licensed to drive a motorcycle for two weeks. The driver of the transport made every effort to stop his vehicle slowing the truck down to approximately 10 km before the impact. Fatigue and inexperience may have been a factors in this tragic crash. The investigation is continuing and no charges are anticipated.
