DEATH THREAT LANDS HEYDEN MAN IN JAIL

Sault Ste Marie OPP arrested a thirty-six-year-old Heyden man last night after a Goulais River woman had her life threatened.

At about 6:00 p.m. yesterday the woman called police to advise that her ex-husband had threatened to kill her. The accused is on a previous release document from a prior assault on the woman. One of the many conditions is not to communicated directly or indirectly with the victim.

As a result of this threat the accused turned himself into the police and he was held at the Sault Ste. Marie Jail overnight. He will appear in bail court this afternoon to answer to more charges.


CHARGES LAID IN TWO VEHICLE COLLISION

Sault Ste Marie OPP has charged one person after a two vehicle collision on Hwy 17 in the Garden River First Nation.

At about 5:30 p.m. yesterday two vehicles were traveling east on Hwy 17 when a dog ran out in front of the first car. The driver braked suddenly to avoid hitting the dog and she was struck by a pick up truck following her.

As a result of this investigation, a 21-year-old Garden River resident has been charged with Following too Close contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. No one was injured in the collision and the dog was not hit.

DOG BITE INVESTIGATION

Officers from the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment are investigating a report that a man received several dog bites while attempting to serve a legal document.

At about 5:00 p.m. yesterday, a thirty-three-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man went to a home on Heyden Lake Road in Heyden. As the man approached the house, three German Shepard dogs surrounded him. The man received several bites to the lower legs and one severe bite to his thigh.

The victim reports that one of the bites punctured the skin and drew blood. None of the three dogs was tied up or in a pen. The victim reported this to the police then sought treatment at the hospital. The Algoma Health Unit has been notified of the incident. This investigation is ongoing and police may lay charges against the owner of the dogs.
