Bruce Mines resident identified as Highway 17 crash victim

The Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has released the name of the victim of a fatal collision that occurred yesterday on Highway 17 near Sand River.

Douglas Hunt, a 76-year-old resident of Bruce Mines, was pronounced deceased at the scene, states a release issued by OPP.

Highway 17 between Batchawana Bay and Wawa was closed to traffic for several hours as a result. The highway has since reopened.

"The investigation revealed that a northbound sport utility vehicle (SUV) struck a northbound plow truck," the release states.

"The investigation is on-going with the assistance of the North East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team including a Technical Collision Investigator (TCI) and a reconstructionist."
