Coffee shop incident ends in assault, threatening charges

BLIND RIVER - On Apr. 27, 2017, members from the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that had occurred at a local coffee shop in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined that on April 26, 2017, shortly after 10 p.m., a 16-year-old male was physically assaulted and threats were made to harm him.

As a result, Skyler Russell, 20 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Uttering threats-cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC. 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Jun. 1, 2017.
