25-year-old facing impaired charges following traffic stop on Great Northern Road

Police say the driver was stopped after being observed traveling at a 'high rate of speed'

A 25-year-old Sault driver is facing a pair of impaired driving charges following a traffic stop on Great Northern Road on Thursday.

Officers with the local Ontario Provincial Police detachment stopped a vehicle they say was travelling at a high rate of speed at the time.

During the stop, police say they determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages and was arrested before being taken to the detachment for further testing.

Police have charged Bernard Rivers with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) and,
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

Police also issued a 90-day licence suspension as a result and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
