Police watchdog investigating after man falls from balcony in London, Ont.

LONDON, Ont. — Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a man was seriously injured in a fall from an apartment balcony in London, Ont., today.

The Special Investigations Unit says a 21-year-old man called 911 around 11:20 a.m. to report the unwanted presence of another man in his home.

The SIU says officers went to the eighth-floor apartment and spoke with both men.

It says when the officers took the second man into the hallway to arrest him, the 21-year-old resident fell from the balcony onto the fourth-floor landing of the building.

The agency says he was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

It says two investigators and a forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

London police, meanwhile, say they were called to the building after an individual refused to leave a unit.

The force says officers arrested that person for breaching the conditions of their release.

It says another man fell from a balcony at the same building while officers were making the arrest.

Police say they can't comment further as the SIU is investigating.
