A northern Ontario First Nation has declared a state of emergency as it responds to a COVID-19 outbreak.
Long Lake #58 First Nation says 22 cases were confirmed as of Friday.
Chief Judy Desmoulin says the community of 535 people lacks resources to handle the spike in cases.
She says the First Nation needs outside government assistance to address the outbreak.
The community went into lockdown on Thursday, shutting the general store and requiring everyone to shelter in place.
A statement says the community is hopeful vaccinations will help protect people but raised concerns about youth who have not yet been vaccinated.
It says the biggest challenge is finding vaccinated people who can help those who are isolating.
