GO Transit website back online after precautionary outage over cyber threat

A southern Ontario transit agency brought its website back online Saturday afternoon following a 17-hour outage in response to a cyber threat.

Metrolinx said the GO Transit website was back online and fully functional as of 1:15 p.m.

The Crown transit agency said it took the site down on Friday after it was informed by the federal government about the global cyber "vulnerability."

Metrolinx said the move was a precautionary one and no customer information or financial files were compromised.

The agency thanked customers of the service that covers the greater Toronto and Hamilton areas for their patience during the outage.

People had been asked to watch social media channels for service information, use alternative booking avenues or call GO Transit's customer service line while the website was down.
