ZGRAJA, Jozef Henrich

August 1, 1916 to December 26, 2008 – Passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital after a long struggle with numerous health issues. Beloved husband of Hilde, loving father of Roswita and Helmut (Susan) and foster daughter Debbie. Devoted grandfather of Nicholas, Adam and Katarina. Born in Poland to the late Piotr and Katarzyna, he immigrated to Canada in 1948 and settled in Sault Ste. Marie where he was employed for many years at Algoma Steel. Together with Hilde, he also owned and operated a dairy farm and later a market garden operation in Prince Township. As Jozef approached retirement age, he turned his energies to public service, and he served Prince Township, first as Road Superintendent and later as Councillor. A proud Canadian, he had a keen interest in politics and world affairs, which he followed to the end. Jozef was devoted to his family and his community. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Sault Area Hospital for their compassionate care of their husband, father and grandfather in recent years, and requests that memorial donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation. Visitation will be at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 from 6 – 9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph the Worker Church at 135 Arden Street on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. Rev. Boguslaw Jaroszek officiating. Spring interment at Hillside Cemetery, Prince Township.
