It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of George at the Sault Area Hospital after a short illness on Monday, August 9th, 2021 at the age of 92.

Cherish husband and best friend of 69 years of Nina (nee Sorokopud).  Loving father of Rick (Theresa), Brian (Ruth) and Laurie Casola (Marty).  Devoted Nonno and grampa of Nicholas (Nadia), Kristopher (Tina), Andrea Marie (Josh), Ryan (Katie) and Krista (Chris) and his treasured great grandchildren late Hayden, Paisley, Levi, Henry and Chase Mancuso.

Son of the late Angelo and the late Eda Zanatta and son-in-law of the late Yawdokia and the late Nicholas Sorokopud.  Special brother of Dena Bumbacco (late John) and Linda Beaudoin (Leo). Brother-in-law of the late Melo Sorokopud (late Mary), late Adolph Sorokopud,  late Stan Sorokopud (Jeannette), Rita Markhoff (late Herbert), Sophie Sachro (late Willie), Jennie Somes (late Wayne) and the late Billy Sorokopud.  Special and respected uncle of many nieces and nephews.

George was an exceptional man, one of a kind with the most generous heart.  Family was everything, number one priority and he was always there to give a helping hand to anyone in need.  He had a great sense of humour, wit and always had a smile on his face.  There will be a big empty space in our lives that will be filled with memories shared.  He will live in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.

A private visitation will be held at Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E 705 759 2522).  Friends are invited to join the family for the funeral mass at St. Gregory's Church (71 Estelle St) on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1 pm.  Rev. Trevor Scarfone officiating.  Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Social distancing and masks are required. Memorial donations (payable by cheque or online) to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Please visit www.arthurfuneralhome.com to leave a message of condolence for the family.

Special thank you to the nurses, doctors at the SAH on 3A and 3B and the Health Sciences North, especially Dr. Moore, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Shum for the special care and compassion.
