WOODS, Norman Clifford

Peacefully passed away on Friday April 6th, 2012 surrounded by friends and family.  Born June 13, 1924, Norman was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Jean (nee Ness) (1995).  Norman was a retired pilot with the Canadian Air Force and began his career in 1943 taking flight training on the ‘Tiger Moth’.  He flew numerous aircraft over his 30 year career with his final posting at the 436 Squadron flying C130’s. After retirement from the Air Force, he and Jean lived several years in Prince Edward County running a general contracting business and then 3 years in Dryden Ont. He spent his childhood growing up in British Columbia and after his wife’s death returned to the Kelowna area.  His later months brought him to Sault Ste. Marie Ont, to be closer to family. He was son of the late Stanley Clifford Woods and the late Kathleen Maud Sheppard.  He was predeceased by his brother Allan Woods.  He is survived by 3 children, Tim Woods (Kathleen), Terry Norma Jean Bewley (Doug) and Trevor Woods (Carol).  He has 2 sisters, Bernice Butler (Bob) and the late Ellinor Burke. He is also survived by a very dear cousin Simone Pack of Coquitlam. He has 9 wonderful grandchildren, Tom (Corey), Jennifer (Ron), Todd (Cindy), Robert, Douglass (Joanne), Kaylin, Steve, Erin and Kevin (Meghan) and 11 great-grandchildren. He is Uncle to 10 nieces and nephews.   A private celebration of life is planned. The family would like to thank friends and staff at Collegiate Heights Retirement, Sandalwood Retirement, and the Sault Area Hospital.  Special thanks to Dr McCloskey, Dr Yee, and Dr Wytsma.  The family will be forever grateful to the staff and volunteers at ARCH for their exceptional care and friendship.
