WOODS, Gwenfil Norma

Posted

After a full and meaningful life, Gwenfil passed peacefully
in her 82nd year on January 10, 2009. Gwenfil Norma Gordon was born November 26, 1926 in Lacombe, Alberta. Daughter of the late Emil and Gwenfil Gordon, the family
lived in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and then moved to Toronto where they lived for many years. Gwenfil was predeceased by her only sibling Thelma Gordon (1942).
Gwenfil excelled scholastically winning the prestigious Governor General's award when graduating high school. She successfully completed her degree in physiotherapy at the University of Toronto and went on to work at Divadale Hospital where she met her true love and life-long partner Raynor Woods. They married and had 46 blissful years together. They were the true definition of soul mates. Together they had three children Joan, Michael and Sally. For all of this, Gwen enjoyed both the simple and finer pleasures in life. A game of scrabble or a good book at the cottage was just as enjoyable as traveling the world. She was an adventurous travelers, exploring Africa, China, Russia, Europe and many more locations. She was a passionate supporter of the arts and the local art community. She won awards at the Fall Festival, and was an accomplished silk painter, knitter, rug hooker, basket
weaver (yes, she actually took a course) and so much more. Another passion of hers was cards. Whether it be playing Hearts with the grandkids or duplicate Bridge with
other experts, Gwen was always up for a game. She was forever intellectually curious and open to differing points of view in a rapidly changing world, but valued
character, common sense, honesty, a sense of humour, and respect above all. She was unique, strong, charitable, brave and a deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother and
friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Please join us to celebrate the life of Gwenfil on Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 at 10:30 am at St.
Luke's Cathedral. A reception will follow.
