WILSON, E. Paul

Peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Sault Area Hospital Plummer Site at the age of 82. Born in Collingwood, Ontario July 17, 1927 to Eric Mackay and Dorothy Gertrude Wilson, and raised in Stayner, Paul attended Ridley and McGill. Following in his father’s footsteps he joined the Canadian Militia in 1948 retiring at the rank of Major in 1963. He had a long and successful career in the newspaper business which took him to many different cities including Toronto, London (England), Montreal, Vancouver and Owen Sound, finally retiring as the publisher of the Sault Star in 1992. An avid recreational pilot, Paul made many good friends through flying and went on some memorable trips. In his later years he enjoyed a hobby as a rock polisher and jewelry maker. And of course there was golf. He was a well-informed, gregarious man with a good sense of humour and many dear friends. Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Carol. From Mt. Albert, daughter Diana Geary (Doug) and granddaughter Hillary. From Vancouver, daughter Sue Rhodes and son Eric. Beloved grandfather of Adam Rhodes of Victoria and Max (Mackay) Rundle, KC (Katherine) Rundle, Ryan Wilson (Sarah) and Brittany Wilson of Vancouver. Predeceased by son Grant in 1983. He was truly loved by all and will be deeply missed. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home on Friday, July 16, 2010 from 2 - 4 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated in the chapel on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Phil Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations in Paul’s honour made to the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie or the SAH Foundation.
