WHITFIELD, MERVYN HOWARD REYNOLDS

Peacefully in his sleep August 3 2012, in his 96th year, Dad has gone home to be with Mom - his beloved wife for 62 years Jean (Baker); loved father of Goldie (Morris) Whitehead, John (Diane), Elwood (Shirley), Charlie (Linda), Ruby (Art) Ford, the late Robert (Marilyn), Diamond (Jason) Rancourt, Lawrence (Lily). Mervyn is survived by sisters-in-law Betty Whitfield and Edith Baker and brother-in-law Joe (June) Baker and predeceased by his parents Howard and Ruby Whitfield and his brothers and sisters Alma, Gladys, Clifford, Clarence, Emma, Helen, Evelyn, Gerald and Doreen and sisters-in-law Mary, Carol, Susie and brothers-in-law Charles, Ted, and Kerwood.  He was loved and will be missed by over 80 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and by numerous nieces and nephews and fondly remembered by John Wilcox.  He was a faithful follower of Jesus and will be missed by his Christian families at Thessalon ( North Livingstone ) and Pinehill (Sault) Churches of Christ.  Mervyn had a varied career as a bush worker, farmer, school bus operator, merchant (Maple Ridge General store), contractor and by-laws enforcement officer and after his retirement became an avid golfer and bowler.  Since 2010 he was well cared for at Pathways retirement home, Van Daele home and the F.J. Davey Home. Special thanks to Dr. P. Catania for his long time care of Mom & Dad and to the staff on Apple 3 at the F.J. Davey home for their excellent care in his final year. Friends may call at the Thessalon Church of Christ, 18 Albert Street on Sunday August 5, 2012 from 6pm to 9pm and on Monday August 6 from 10am until time of service at 11 o’clock with Phillip Bailey officiating.
